Sapil Challenge Men is a citrus fragrance with some woody notes. From the opening through to the deep dry-down, the fragrance doesn't really evolve much to reveal other notes. The fragrance notes list a few other things, including cinnamon and mint, but this is pretty much a classic citrus-and-wood fragrance. In that sense, this isn't anything new or unique that will make you stand out from the crowd. On the other hand, there can be value in a tried-and-true formula. While not unique, this is a safe bet if you want a light citrus fragrance that should appeal to most people (or at least not offend them).

This is a very versatile fragrance. It would be appropriate dressed up or dressed down. You could wear this to work or on a date or just as a daily scent.

Citrus fragrances are considered to be among the best for warm weather conditions, so they're popular in late spring through early fall. They tend not to work as well in cold weather, where heavier scents such as tobacco, spice and oud perform better. Truth be told, I'm generally not a huge fan of designer citrus fragrances. They often have a synthetic lemon note that reminds me of Lemon Pledge wood polish. However, I think Challenge Men smells pretty good for this price point.

Performance with this fragrance (longevity and sillage or projection) is a little below average in my experience (I own over 150 fragrances). But citrus scents generally don't perform as well as some other scents, such as tobacco, oud, and vanilla, which often last six to eight hours and can even linger on a jacket for days. With Challenge Men, you have to be generous with the number of sprays you apply to get decent projection. Longevity is about three hours before this becomes a skin scent. By the end of a work day, this is essentially gone. In fairness, there are some high-end niche citrus fragrances that hardly perform any better than this, but Challenge Men definitely does not have "beast mode" performance. If you want to have this scent on you all day, you'll need to reapply it every three hours or so to freshen it up. This is an eau de toilette concentration, which has about 5 to 15% perfume oil. If you need something with better performance, look for an eau de parfum fragrance, which would have about 15 to 20% perfume oil.

Challenge opens with a bracing accord of refreshing mint teamed with the tang of zesty lemon and peppery geranium. The classic masculine accord of lavender makes a statement right from the start. This perfume for men enters warm, spicy territory among the heart fragrance notes of cinnamon and cardamom. The aromatic centre then develops into a robust base of uncompromising woody notes that encapsulate the strength of the man who wears it. With cedar and sandalwood providing a long-lasting sign-off, nobody will forget the day they met him.
